Improving social integration of people with disabilities through digital and ICT skills
The principle of the IDA project is to always start from the needs of the people with disabilities. “It is not about doing something FOR them, but WITH them, says Régis Alvin, the coordinator of the IDA project. IDA participated in Grundtvig Award 2020 on Outreach and Access and was recognized as a highly-commendable initiative.
Fostering a city-wide culture of learning
“The Citizens’ University as an idea did not come by chance,” – says Dimitris Deligiannis about the “Citizens’ University of Larissa,” the initiative which won the Grundtvig Award 2020 on Outreach and Access in Adult Learning. “It is the result of a strong political will to implement actions based on the humanitarian principles of Lifelong Learning as a response to the recent economic and social crisis.”

Let’s use the Recovery and Resilience Facility for Adult Learning and Education!
EAEA welcomes the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), which was presented on 17 September 2020. The RRF will provide a total of €672.5 billion to support investment and reforms, and one of the flagships is Re- and Upskilling. This is a great opportunity to strengthen and invest in adult learning and education (ALE) in Europe.
“Sustainability is not only about the environment”
In a vibrant online discussion on 16 September 2020, stakeholders from education, environment and development sectors gathered with European decision-makers to take stock of the role of education to build sustainable societies. The meeting, which was moderated by LLLP Secretary-General Giuseppina Tucci, focused on how education and lifelong learning can contribute to sustainable development not only from an economic, environment point of view but also social.
Adult learning and education for strengthening democratic values
EAEA welcomes the consultation on a European Democracy Action Plan launched by the European Commission. Adult learning and education (ALE) can contribute significantly to achieving the objectives of the new Democracy Action Plan. The public consultation will remain open until 15 September.

New paper explores gender and adult learning
EAEA has published a new background paper on gender in the context of adult learning and education. The paper aims to raise awareness about the role of gender in ALE and promotes gender-sensitive approaches to learning.
European Skills Agenda is big step forward for European adult learning and education
The recently launched revised European Skills Agenda takes adult learning and education in Europe one step forward. While the Upskilling Pathways have been very valuable for promoting basic skills and validation of non-formal and informal learning, the Skills Agenda strengthens non-formal adult education and learning by saying that it will “prioritise non-formal, life-wide learning, intergenerational, intercultural and community learning” and by highlighting skills for life as a key pillar of adult learning and education.
