Recognising learning and competences of adults

What was the main purpose of this project?

“The main purpose of this project was to create and develop Learning Map, a web tool and adult education method to map, track, monitor, evaluate and recognize the learning and competences of adult learners and lately to adult educators and educational staff . This tool was developed in a way that can also be used by other target groups such as youth organisations, schools, universities and companies.

The features of this tool include:
• Start with one badge, then create entire systems. Have total flexibility in recognition.
• Build recognition pathways with levels and milestones. Track progress and monitor skills development.
• Show opportunities for learning and achievements. See how badges can encourage proactivity.

Track Impact and achievements

• Monitor how people complete badge earning activities in real time.
• View and analyse recognition data. Use it to identify trends and patterns.
• Issue certificates based on earned badges and unlocked achievements.

Create an achievement portfolio
• Sort and visualise achievements in an online portfolio.
• Manage privacy settings to decide easily who you share your achievements with.
• Share achievements online and offline with digital Open Badges and printable certificates.”

How did the project foster cooperations and partnerships?

“The partners of this project were: Ha Moment – non-profit cooperative working in Adult Education, from Portugal, Badgecraft – a company that works with Open Digital Badges, from Lithuania, University of Paderborn – an university that has 20.000 students, from Germany, and PINA – An ngo that works in the youth field and adult education, from Slovenia.

The cooperation was well established and worked well because partners are from different sectors: an ngo, a cooperative, a company and a university, and cooperated towards the common goals by contributing with their unique expertise and experience. Badgecraft was in charge of the technical part of developing the Learning Map webtool and providing knowledge on Open Badges. Ha Moment was coordinating and in charge of developing the guidelines of the usage of the Learning Map. University of Paderborn made the research and was in contact with the labour market and students. PINA developed 3 videos: 2 tutorials for the Learning Map and one with general promotion of the Learning Map tool.

Thanks to this division of tasks it was possible to achieve the objectives proposed and enhance the cooperation of different sectors and countries. All partners contributed and communication was a key element to try to reach common agreements and understand the different approaches and methods of each partner. This enhanced a great partnership and cooperation from different sectors, using a common tool for recognition of competences: Learning Map.”

What was the best practice learnt from this project that you want to share?

“Expertise of each partner. This allowed to build trust in each other and that all outputs could be done with quality. Good communication is also a key element, which may solve any miss understandings, obstacles and enhance a better cooperation.”
