The Alliance believes that in order to achieve just and sustainable change, it is necessary to re-shape our economies, create a new world of work, plan, and act locally, tackle inequalities, mainstream Just Transition through policy, recognise the role of education in the transition, deliver global climate justice, and draw on human rights frameworks and science.
Promoting just transition, sustainability, and social inclusion through ALE
EAEA’s decision to become part of the Alliance is rooted in its commitment to issues concerning Just Transition, sustainability, and social inclusion. Sustainability and equity have been central pillars of EAEA’s Manifesto for Adult Learning in the 21st Century. EAEA has actively engaged in various projects and advocacy activities related to these principles. We have also published background papers on the role of ALE for sustainability and active citizenship, which underscores our dedication to fostering environmental consciousness and just change through education.
EAEA firmly believes that adult education plays a pivotal role in equipping people with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead meaningful changes in their communities for the benefit of the environment, all individuals, and democracy. We envision a future where sustainable and just societies thrive, leaving no one behind. By collaborating with the Alliance that brings together numerous sectors and initiatives, we aim to strengthen our efforts in driving positive change, reaching out to disadvantaged communities, promoting empowerment, fostering inclusion, and actively contributing to a just and sustainable system that engages everyone in the transition.
EAEA’s annual theme 2023 dedicated to the green transition
Throughout 2023, EAEA is placing a significant focus on the theme of Adult Learning and the Green Transition. Our Annual Conference and Grundtvig Award were part of the EU Green Week 2023, highlighting the importance of environmental sustainability from a social justice perspective. In addition, the Lifelong Learning Interest Group, coordinated by EAEA and the Lifelong Learning Platform, has held meaningful discussions on this subject, aiming to address the intersection of sustainability and inclusion policies.
