Who we are

Public Open University Samobor (POUS) is the central institution for lifelong education in the local community of the City of Samobor. Its role is to continuously identify, create, and offer formal and informal educational and cultural programs needed by citizens of various demographic, social, and psychological characteristics, all to enable their self-fulfilment.

It is recognized as a leading institution in Samobor, providing education and working to enhance the general knowledge and skills of the community through lifelong education.

What we do

Public Open University Samobor (POUS) is a public and non-profit institution dedicated to promoting lifelong education, culture, and information for all age groups, with a focus on adult education. The institution conducts over 1000 different activities (cultural and educational) annually. Adult education represents a very important area of activity, within which a whole range of training and improvement programs are offered. As part of its activities, the education department organizes lectures for active citizenship on topics such as ecology, health, upbringing, education and social issues under the name Civic Tuesday. https://www.samobor.hr/obrazovanje/novosti-s98?catId=124

POUS also conducts different cultural activities such as classical music concerts, theatre performances for children and adults, cinema  (cinema on the road, summer cinema, film workshops, free children’s film screenings called Filmko…), exhibitions as part of the Prica Gallery, multimedia events such as the Love Poetry Festival, programs for youth within the Youth Center “Bunker”

Best practices

From the very beginning, POUS has independently written and submitted EU projects, starting with pre-accession funds such as IPA and after that European Social Fund. However, we are also open to partnerships, and any project that serves to improve learning opportunities for our users and employees. POUS also participated in the Erasmus+ (KA1, KA2) programme and has been awarded the Erasmus accreditation in the field of adult education.
