Who we are
ABSM is an association that was founded in Basel in 1997 with a lot of commitment by Albanian-speaking immigrants. The former ABS (Albanian Advice Center) was an important contact point for Albanian migrants from Kosovo, Macedonia and Albania. In addition to German courses, specifically for Albanian-speaking women and young people, ABSM offered advice and a wide range of assistance on a voluntary basis. As part of the federal government’s return programme, ABS was significantly involved in return assistance for Kosovar migrants from 2000 and onwards. ABSM transformed from a migrant association to an educational and integration institution. In 2000, an institution for training and counseling was founded in the Gjakova region of Kosovo. The name changed to ABSM (training and counseling center for migrants) in May 2003, marking the opening of the ABSM to migrants of different origins, initially suggested by the Basel authorities. With a regional and international network, and in cooperation with the authorities of the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Land, ABSM has been able to constantly expand and improve its range of services. In 2008, ABSM received the Swiss quality certificate for further education institutions eduQua.
