Bernhard Grämiger is the director of the Swiss Federation of Adult Learning (SVEB). As the umbrella organization for adult learning in Switzerland SVEB gathers 700 members including associations, state and private providers and trainers. SVEB is the main driver of professionalization and quality development in Switzerland and contributes to the development of the adult education system through innovative national and international projects.

As the director, Bernhard Grämiger is responsible for the management and the strategic development of the organization (30 staff members, 4 million Euro budget). He initiates and coordinates innovative national projects and, on the policy level, and represents adult education vis-à-vis the state, the cantons and various national working groups.

He is also responsible for the international work in the organization: on behalf of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation we monitor and support UNESCO’s Agenda 2030 and CONFINTEA processes in Switzerland, he serves as a link to ICAE and UIL, participates in numerous Erasmus+ projects and in transfer projects in Eastern Europe (Balkan, Hungary, Romania and Belarus). For the last six years he has been a board member of the European Basic Skills Network (EBSN).

Prior to the current position he has worked in SVEB for more then 10 years as project manager, leader of the development and innovation department and, for four years, as deputy director.

 

The promotion of access to non-formal learning for disadvantaged people, basic skills learning, upskilling, quality and professionalization, improving funding and new trends like digitalization: these should be the top priorities for EAEA in the years to come.
