What are cookies?
A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile phone when you visit that site. Cookies are widely used to make websites work more efficiently. They also transmit data to the owners of the website.
You cannot be identified merely based on cookies but, together with other data, they can be connected to you. In such cases, cookies can be considered as personal data. We do not, however, seek to identify you with cookies.
How do we use cookies?
On our website, we use the Google Analytics program supplied by Google (Google Inc.), which makes it easier to monitor the use of the website. For this purpose, Google Analytics uses cookies, which are text files transferred to the user’s computer.
The data created by cookies from the use of this website (standard Internet login data, including the user’s IP address, and anonymous visiting data) is transferred to and saved by Google, for example in servers in the USA. The user’s IP address is made anonymous before being sent to Google. We keep user-level data in the Google Analytics program for 26 months, after which it is automatically deleted.
According to its Privacy Shield certification, Google states that it observes the EU’s and USA’s Privacy Shield Framework. Google may deliver data collected by Google Analytics to third parties when the law so requires or when third parties process data on behalf of Google.
According to Google Analytics’ terms of use, Google does not connect the IP addresses of data subjects to any other data stored in Google.
The use of Google Analytics’ cookies may be prevented by downloading and using Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Cookies are also used to save data about whether a data subject has accepted the use of cookies on our website, so that the question is not asked again at every visit.
On our website, we also use social media cookies (widgets), by which users can add content to our website for different social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.). In order for you to understand how these third parties collect data, what data they collect and what cookies they set, read the privacy protection practices of the social media platform in question.
How can you monitor the use of cookies?
You can block the use of cookies by changing your browser settings. The location of the settings depends on the browser. Please bear in mind, however, that if you decide to delete the cookies, at the same time you will delete your own settings. If, then again, you completely block the use of cookies, many websites will not work properly and webcasts will not work at all. Because of this, we do not recommend that you block the use of cookies.
In all browsers, cookies may be deleted one by one or all in one go. The location of the delete function depends on the browser. In most browsers, you can:
- view the cookies on your computer and delete them one by one
- block the saving of third party cookies
- block the saving of cookies from certain websites
- block all cookies
- delete all cookies when you close your browser.
If you use several different browsers, remember to delete the cookies from all of them.
